Exciting news for those on the waiting list for Green Drive, after some investigating and emails I as the site Representative have some keen growers looking forward to getting news about some growing space.
It is going to be happening soon, I admit October has been and gone far too quickly and I didn't keep up with my plans and intentions. Sorry peeps.

It is hard work to clear a patch, requires back breaking effort and long hours.
It is not like Rosemary & Thyme (the TV series) of pottering around and it all falling into place. You have to keep at it all year round, that means in the rain or scorching sun, Summer and less often in the Winter.
The links below offer easier ways to gain success on your plot from starting out on a weed infested patch to taking home some food fresh for the plate.
On the Green Drive Allotments where the endangered wildlife to the urban fox and the lesser spotted digger seldom cross paths, I as the site rep would like to encourage Organic ways of growing your food and chemical free means of keeping pests at bay.
Not only to preserve the endangered wildlife but also to help us humans stay healthy as well as the planet and perhaps to educate those around us who seem not to bother.
No Dig plots & No Dig method

Growing your own fruit and veg Vegetable/fruit Good varieties Typical purchase price Expected yield Cost of homegrown vegetable/fruit Supermarket cost Saving
Cucumber 'Marketmore' £1.50 a plant 30-40 fruits per plant 5p each 43p each 38p a cucumber
Tomatoes 'Gardener’s Delight' £1.50 a plant 3kg a plant 50p a kg £2.48 a kg £1.98 a kg Courgettes 'Defender' £1.50 a plant 30 courgettes a plant 5p each 39p each 34p a courgette Mangetout 'Delikata' £2.50 for a packet of seed 3kg a square metre 83p a kg £7 a kg £6.17 a kg
Carrots 'Early Nantes' £1.50 for a packet of seed Up to 6kg a square metre 25p a kg £0.61 a kg £0.36 a kg
Baby leaf salads Choose a mix £2 for a packet of seed Two to six bags of salad 33p-£1 a picking £1.47 for a 125g bag 47p-£1.14 a picking
(check you like all the ingredients) Strawberries 'Elsanta' £1-£1.50 a plant 2kg from six plants £3-£4.50 a kg £5.33 a kg 83p a kg
Raspberries 'Autumn Bliss' £1-£2 2kg per bush each year 50p-£1 a kg £13 a kg £12-£12.5 a kg
The above are really old prices, this means even better savings are to be made now in 2018/19 as fuel and Brexit puts the boot in.
It doesn't take a huge space to grow enough for even a few portions a week for all the family.
As a community of growers there are often gluts of one veg or another so it is possible to swap around.
I would like to keep Green Drive allotment growers informed of what is planned but as yet there is no group going.
I also as the site rep have plans to get the plots used and worked better, watch this space!
